| HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) FROM R. {Sir Henry Royce} DY. {F R Danby} ) [Struck through] C. to SG. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} [STAMP: RECEIVED] [STAMP: ORIGINAL] 'JAPAN(Experimental Engine)' R6/M22.8.30. X5770. Referring to the 'Japan(Experimental Engine)' engine we particularly want this to replace the 'China(Experimental Engine)' engine as soon as possible for the reasons already given. It has promised very definite advantages and is the only type suitable for the double carburetter and double ignition. The situation however at the moment is that we are waiting for further instructions from WW. as regards improvement to the head to permit of the double ignition, (the move that Mr. Minchin thinks would be very popular to the buyers.) The 'Japan(Experimental Engine)' engine however appears to be more reliable as regards the absence of missing fire at pick up and slow running than the original 20HP. The reason for this phenomenon has never been explained notwithstanding the notes I have written on the subject, that is, as far as I can remember, but I may have missed or forgotten the existence of some notes from Derby.
