It has been found necessary to occasionally lubricate the tapes with graphite as squeaking is likely to occur due to bonnet movement.

EXHAUST FITTINGS. 10P.F.60330. Lec.4780-82. 4930-93.
Incorporating Lec. 4930-43. Front Expansion Box.
F.60865. Expansion Box assembly.
Lec.4930. Front Silencer.

Considerable trouble has been experienced with the system throughout. The original primary expansion chamber and down-pipe was removed at 28,854 miles, and a new aluminised unit made in mild steel was fitted. After a further run of 1400 miles this cracked away at the weld where the down pipe enters the expansion box. The original expansion chamber was therefore refitted. Later the main silencer broke where the short pipe enters the forward end. This was the second time that this particular breakage had occurred. Re-welding satisfactorily repaired the break.

After a further 1070 miles the lug which secures the primary expansion box to the crankcase cracked, and a rivet broke away leaving a hole.

When the exhaust manifold had completed 21,300 miles a securing stud broke off, and again on two later occasions studs broke off. In each case the stud was replaced and the manifold was eased, and no further trouble ensued. This breakage seems due to the gradual contraction of the manifold throughout the running.

FRAME FITTINGS. 10P.F.61086.

We confirm the opinion expressed in the 13,000 miles report on running in France, that frame tie bars cannot be dispensed with. Tie bars were fitted at 30,420 miles, to assist in the suspension tests, but this did not altogether eliminate the chassis vibrations that were taking place on bad surfaces, although the radiator, wing and spare wheel movements were considerably reduced.

HYDRAULIC DAMPERS. Rears 10P. F.60246.
Fronts F.60247.

GOVERNOR CONTROL. 10P. F.60294.

Although these were removed and readjusted several times during the suspension tests, they gave no trouble while in operation. Oil leaks slightly developed from the rear glands. No audible knocks developed, and the dampers remained effective throughout the mileage.
