Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ---------- Re: Chassis 22-EX - 10,000 Miles Test Report. The following are extracts from Mr Hancock's report on the 10,000 miles test on the above chassis:- (1) 'Steering very quickly became hard and after five 'days running almost seized up on the ball ends 'of the cross steering tube. Drastic alteration 'to the amount of oil supplied to these proved 'successful during the remainder of the test. Remarks: We have removed the metering device. (2) 'The propellor shaft caused bad periods through 'loss of oil in the mechanics joints, which gave 'considerable trouble until it was possible to 'make the joints oil tight. The periods still 'remain to some extent and can be felt through the 'rear floor boards. Remarks: The Works consider they can get tight joints to prevent this. (3) S.S. ENGINE UNIT NO. 15. 'The performance and power of the engine has been 'very good throughout the milage. 'A crankshaft period at 40 M.P.H. developed after 'approximately 4,500 miles and became very noticeable. 'At the same time there was also a spring drive 'rattle at a speed of 25 M.P.H.. We reduced the 'crankshaft period by 50% and the spring drive 'rattle by 90% after reducing the damping load on 'the spring drive and resetting the slipper load 'to 10 lbs. Remarks: These may eventually demand heavier damping wheels. | ||
