We have an idea that running with a lot of oil in the bottom half may be a disadvantage in that it will cause a layer of stagnant oil to be present on the bottom of the sump next to the cooling ribs, and so prevent these from being effective. We are making a bottom half where there is a high oil velocity over the surface. We have done this by putting a false bottom in and making all the oil flow through this narrow passage before it passes into the sump proper.

Another idea we are trying is the Viscon, developed by the Americans. In this device the engine water delivered from the pump is passed through a little radiator matrix in the same way as air normally flows through the tubes, and oil is passed through the passages where the water usually flows. The attached advert shows the idea. If we can get any results with it, we shall send it out to you.

Your petrol consumption looks alarming.
Please find the best you can do and let us know the result.
