| -5- Cont'd. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} The general condition of the pivot bearings, brake toggle bearings is very good. The lubrication of the pivots, side steering arm, front ball ends has been quite ample. We took the restriction out of the bijurs supplying the cross steering tube ball ends and with this arrangement ample lubrication has been supplied to them. We have since run 6,000 miles without further trouble. Examination at the finish of mileage there was a good film of oil on the contacts and spheres. We have lubricated the front axle every 500 miles, the Enots gun being screwed up until the back pressure was felt, then released. Remarks: We have already taken the restriction out of the bijurs supplying the cross steering tube ball ends. (13) CROSS STEERING TUBE LOP G.77482 N.S.2797. This cross steering tube fouled the front shock dampers when brakes were applied and was the primary cause of the braking of the shock dampers. The new cross steering tube with the double set is quite satisfactory and does not foul the dampers. Remarks: This has been cleared up, and instructions have been issued to bend the tube. (14) FRONT AXLE CONTROL DAMPERS LOP F.79507 N.S. 2794/5 2817. We have had two failures of the N/S damper, the case breaking in the neck, the fractures being very similar to previous failures. The cause was chiefly due to fouling of the cross steering tube. We have carried out the various experiments with the loading of the dampers to Derby instructions, full reports of these tests have been sent to Derby. The lubrication of the control arm has been satisfactory. Remarks: Will the Experimental Dept. please let us have their actually recommended loadings. (15) REAR SHOCK DAMPERS LOP F.79925 N.S. 2800-2 STRENGTHENED TYPE DAMPER CASINGS. We have not had any mechanical trouble with the | ||
