| DEV. DEPT. C. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 1/G.22.11.38. ARM 606 WRAITH 111 - FRONT BRAKE DAMPER ON ENGINE SUMP. Please receive herewith :- E.CD.1030 Front Brake Damper - Wraith 111. The damper and its lever are the same as used on the temporary scheme S.CD.805, with a facing for the damper added to the lower half crankcase. In order to make room for the damper it is necessary to alter the shape of the following pipes, the main oil feed pipe to crankshaft Bearings, the water pump suction pipe, and crankcase breather pipe. When the front expansion box for the exhaust system is deleted later on in Series 'G', the breather pipe should again be altered as indicated by the dotted outline of pipe in end elevation to reduce the cost of the extra bend in the pipe. This will mean altering the position of the hole in underpan through which the breather pipe passes. It is intended to use these pipes for the Bentley 111 engine, also when the revised Bentley 111 exhaust system is instructed. There is a slight alteration to the expansion box support bracket, to supply the stop for the damper lever in case of rod breakages. When adding the new facing for the damper on to the lower half crankcase, the boss for the present brake carrier lever should be omitted, also the two small facings intended for the fixing of the Bentley 111 exhaust box support bracket should be deleted, as they will be replaced by other facings to suit the revised Wraith 111 and Bentley 111 exhaust systems having no front expansion box. The spannering of the nuts for the crankcase sump, adjacent to the damper, is made more difficult by the addition of the damper. Will you please detail and instruct in accordance with the standardisation for Series 'G'. DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
