CARBURATION.

S.U. Starter Carburetter.

If we can get rid of the freezing on this starter, and, at the same time, raise idling speed with a cold engine to 600 r.p.m., I believe this device could be reasonably satisfactory.

Horse-power curve with Wraith Induction System.

When we started on the fixed choke carburetter, we imagined that we were going to be as good for horse-power as with the expanding carburetter. Recent curves show that this is not borne out with our present arrangement. We should like an analysis to be made as to where the Stromberg falls short of the Bentley System, and whether a single horizontal S.U. gives better power than the Stromberg.

We should like to follow up the analysis on camshafts, which was extremely informative, with an analysis of various induction systems, the four in which we are interested being a single Stromberg, a single S.U., a duplex Stromberg and a Duplex S.U. The Duplex Stromberg really heads the list of importance if it improves the power output. All these tests could be done on the B.V. engine, and then we shall know which is the best system to work on, on the B.60.

Consumptions & Exhaust Systems.

Taub makes a great point in his paper of the effect of exhaust on power throttle systems. We should like a brief investigation to be made to see if there is anything in this theory. Of course, if we actually lose a lot of horse-power under part throttle conditions, we can understand it effecting the consumption, but given the same loss in two different systems we find it difficult to believe that there will be a marked difference in consumption. Probably the B.60 engine is the best on which to do this test as it is possible to employ 2 cylinder manifolds.

We should like CTS. {C. Trot Salt - Carburation} to make enquiries as to the best cylinder bore measuring apparatus available in the country to-day, and compare it with what is available in the Works. We should be inferior to no one in the country in our capacity
