| (6) 24. CAMSHAFT. The camshaft gear wheel is mounted on a ball bearing in gunmetal housing. If P. 2. method using plain bearing is adopted there will be reduction in cost: Material 3. 1. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will make design. 25. IGNITION COIL. If the ignition coil and ballast were mounted as on P. 2. there would be a saving of: Material 7½ Nett labour 3½ Total nett saving 11 E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will see model (agrees to position.) 26. CONNECTING RODS BOLTS. If P. 2. practice were adopted the saving would be: Nett labour 5 E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will design. 27. PISTONS. There are four D shaped grooves cut at each end of the gudgeon pin bore to enable the spring retaining rings to be easily removed. It has been demonstrated that one groove is sufficient for this purpose. If the other grooves are deleted there would be a saving of: Nett labour 3½ BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will instruct. 28. OIL PUMP DRIVE. This drive is less costly if of P. 2. design. The saving would be: Material 1. 0½ Nett labour 11½ Total nett saving 2. 0½ E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is incorporating this in the new engine design. Too much alteration is necessary to adopt it in the existing engine. 29. ENGINE SUSPENSION 'D' TUBE. The present design calls for reinforcing tubes inside. If the gauge of the 'D' tube could be increased in thickness and the reinforcement deleted there would be a saving of: Nett labour 1. 4. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will instruct one for bumping test. | ||
