Dear Fedden,

I am sorry your car is rattling. I think your diagnosis is correct and that the car is beginning to suffer from Anno Domini!

The possibilities of getting a new chassis depend almost entirely on the progress of the war.

We are proposing to finish off one or two of those started before the outbreak of hostilities and if and when they are completed, the Board might conceivably agree to letting you have one. The difficulty in this respect appears to be mileage.

Naturally, we want these cars to be in the hands of the people who cover the maximum mileage every year, so that we can obtain all possible data during war-time conditions.

If I may, I will write to you later when the position has clarified itself a little.

Yours sincerely,
