40/50 HP. WING STAYS.

With reference to Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} /Hn {F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} 18/EDI/4.2.27. We think this is essentially a job which should be taken up with DA {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /EV {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} , and we will send a copy of your memo. on to him so that he can deal with this matter.

The RR. wing stays have been run in France on 12-EX 12,000 miles with the head lamp brackets fitted on to the stays. We have examined the car this morning fitted up in this manner and find that the wings and lamps are quite rigid. We can see no reason for fitting a stay as suggested by the coachbuilders. Similar wing stays are also fitted to Mr. Royce's car 7-EX. They have been on that car for 2 yrs. and there have been no criticisms.

These stays were also fitted to 11-EX which was run 10,000 miles by Sales and we believe is now being used by B.J. Unless alterations have been made, these stays should still be on that car. This car must have completed 20,000 miles by now.

We do not know whether the coachbuilders are criticising the rigidity of these stays without fitting the wing - if so, this is wrong. No doubt DA {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /EV. {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} will find an opportunity of visiting the coachbuilders and find out what their complaints are.
