Re: 40/50 HP. Speedometers.

You will recollect that we changed over from the Elliott to the A.T. Speedometer on 40/50 HP. Chassis, because of troubles experienced with the Elliott.

Elliott's have now brought out a new instrument - one of which has been tested for 7,000 odd miles on one of the Trials Cars, with satisfactory results. The retail price of this speedometer is only £6-6-0. as compared with £12-12-0. for the A.T.

The price of the A.T. is also increased by the reduction gear which you make for use on 40/50 HP. Chassis and which we believe will not be necessary on the Elliott.

The Sales Conference are anxious that the Elliott Speedometer should be tested by 'W' and as we understand some 40/50 HP. Cars are going on test to France immediately, we telephoned 'He' yesterday to see if these could be equipped with the new type Elliott speedometers. He informed us however, that these Chassis have the gear drive for the Speedometers and as, of course, Elliott's would not have the necessary parts ready, it will be impossible to fit them to these Cars.

He mentioned, however, that there would be some other 40/50 HP. Cars going very shortly for Continental testing and we should therefore be obliged if you would immediately communicate with Elliotts giving them necessary information regarding the gear drive and ordering from them speedometers for testing on these Cars.

B.J. also mentioned that a Car for testing purposes was coming here. You will doubtless know the Car referred to - and if possible, we would suggest that this be equipped with an Elliott speedometer as well.

Would you please let us know what arrangements you are able to make in this direction and keep us posted as to the result of the Elliott speedometer tests.

JSG.
