| Contd:-2- (8) The material for production could possibly be ordered second or third week in July, when we should know how the cars were behaving on the 10,000 miles trial. (9) This material should be delivered during the month of September as far as possible. I realise that there will be Die and Tool making to some extent, to produce some of this material, but a special effort should be made so that production could start late September. (10) I also recommend that three chassis of each hand be rushed through in addition to the two for 10,000 miles trial, in order to get intensive running, say during July, August and September. (11) We should start designing and making Jigs and Tools both for both types, right and left hand, during May. These tools may cost at least £20/30,000. The cost of Jigs and Tools can be gone into further, it may need more expenditure than this, because we want to get the best and cheapest possible way of making the pieces. (12) I further recommend that the present type of 20/25 chassis that we still have to make, and the 200 sets we are ordering, which totals 512, should be made as rapidly as possible, so as to get them out of the way, that is to say - it is advisable during the early months of this year to make them, possibly at 10/12 per week. 10/12 per week may be too high a number, if so and we were only allowed to keep up a steady eight per week we could clear them off by early October. We have, all the time, not to overlook the question of our Establishment Charges, and from this point of view producing a steady eight instead of breaking down and starting up would assist us with our Establishment Charges. What we really require is more enterprise to meet present conditions, and if we possibly can, avoid the general term amongst the workpeople that appertains to our factory, i.e. "stop 'em and start 'em" and "rush 'em and rest 'em". We could build for stock without those parts that are generally altered when sold, and there would not be much risk in producing these rapidly, because we usually sell 400/500 each year. Contd: | ||
