the S.S. axle has had the benefit of 70% greater friction.

Cooling system.- We carried out a test to-day to determine the effectiveness of the rear bonnet shutters at maximum speeds. We find that opening these shutters reduces the water temperature by about 7.5 °C. With our present atmospheric temperature of 30°C. this just makes the difference between boiling continuously and running with a water temperature of 92°C.

We note that there are no leather covers on 21-EX for the top of the axle control dampers. We hope that some have been fitted on production.

Hk. {Col. T. Harker - Sales} will be at the Works on Thursday and hopes to see the R. {Sir Henry Royce} engine.

The weather continues most uncomfortably tropical.

We shall have finished steering tests in two days or so, when I shall return and leave G.W.H. to carry on with engine boom elimination.

The autovac top I brought out supplies the engine requirements satisfactorily at maximum speeds.
