CONFERENCE AT CONDUIT ST. {Capt. P. R. Strong}
TO DISCUSS MODIFICATIONS TO
20/25 HP. CHASSIS.

The purpose of the conference was to discuss modifications which should be incorporated in the future production of the 20/25 HP. car. Present were Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} , PH., Cx. {Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} , Ry., Ha.

It was necessary to review the position owing to the fact that Japan(Experimental Engine) lll, which at one time was hoped to be put quickly into production, was now a long way off. It was thought that we had to look forward to the present 20/25 HP. carrying on for two years before Japan(Experimental Engine) lll was likely to be available.

The items on the attached list were discussed, and the decisions arrived at were as follows :-

(1) It was agreed that we should stick to the standard axle.

(2) It was agreed that the 3" diameter propeller shaft was necessary but it was hoped that this could be obtained without increasing the pot in the floor. Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and Ha. examined some 20/25 HP. cars in the Showroom and found that at the present time coachbuilders were building bodies with the floorboards level with the top of the frame, which meant that they already had a pot and to increase this would be a definite disadvantage. By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} promised that he would arrange that the cross-member should either have a flat on it or some satisfactory means would be arrived at to make the floorboards satisfactory.

(3) It was agreed that there was no alternative but to use the standard gearbox. At the same time Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and PH. pointed out that it was rather distressing to think that in spite of their previous demands and the promises that have been made we still had to look forward that for another two years we should be producing cars which had neither easy change nor a silent third speed.

(4) This was agreed.

(5) Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} pointed out that all that he and Sales new about the Japan(Experimental Engine) type engine was that the last time they tried a car fitted with this engine it was condemned as being unsatisfactory. Therefore they could make no comment as regards the engine until they had seen and tried a satisfactory example of this engine.
