File Wraith III. by the tomorrow GRY {Shadwell Grylls} --------------------------------- Independent Front Wheel Suspension with Exposed Road Springs and Separate Dampers. We have now produced preliminary schemes for a modification to our existing Wraith II suspension with exposed coil springs and separate RR. shock dampers using the frame exactly as now instructed. The wheels, brakes, brake drum and stub axle are those already designed for Wraith II, whilst the brake operating gear remains unaltered except in a few details. The frontal appearance is unchanged and so is the radiator with the exception of the mounting. The centre steering lever is the same in the plan view although the lever for the cross steering tube has a different set in the elevation. Essentially the new parts consist of frame extensions, front pan, top and bottom triangles and the yoke piece. The front roll rod in main continues unaltered but we have deleted the front cross member in order to save weight, and have made a pan rather large in the plan view, and this will carry the starting handle bearing. We have ascertained that it is lighter to make the pan large than to reduce its dimensions and be forced to introduce a front tubular cross member. On N.Sch.5063, sheet 1, we show a plan view of the whole scheme, and on sheet 2 we show a section through the triangle levers, and on sheet 3 a section at rightangles to the longitudinal axis of the car through the centre line of the coil springs. These three drawings will enable you to get a general idea of the scheme. On N.Sch.5062 we show the upper and lower triangle levers and the yoke piece. On the lower triangle lever we have provided connections for the shock absorber and front roll rod, and it will be noticed that we have decided to use the latest type of lubricated connecting link in view of the repeated failures of the rubber one. Should, however, the rubber scheme be made to work it could be used. This drawing also shows the jack with the bump and | ||
