| To R. {Sir Henry Royce} c. to Des. c. to Idy. XSA 612 Ha/kmth.17/JM. {Mr Morley} 3.9.36. Re Modified Wraith Flywheel. N.Sch.4862. We doubt whether this scheme has sufficient advantages over the present arrangement to justify the change. We are told by the Repair Department that starter gear teeth wear is by no means a serious complaint on Bentley and 25 H.P. Only three flywheels in all have had to be changed for this reason, the trouble being attributed to accumulation of Ferodo dust on the pinion. Furthermore, we have never heard of any need to balance dynamically the flywheels of 25 H.P. and Bentleys on assembled engines. Since we do not anticipate any saving in cost with the new scheme, we think the existing arrangement should be adhered to. Ha/kmth. | ||
