19-EX.

Ref. Ha/Les/7/KT.

Side Spare Wheel Carrier Support.

We are not quite clear as to which bolts have failed. We presume they are from the four bolts securing the triangular bracket to the inside of the frame. In fact the ones which failed on the same car in the days when they were 5/16" diameter. If this is the case, which of the four bolts have failed? Are the bolts securing the bracket outside the frame to the dash satisfactory? Perhaps you could let me have a rough sketch, and send the broken bolts for us to examine. This will help us to improve the design.

SHOCK DAMPERS. I was sorry to note that foreign bodies in the system had caused trouble initially, but with so many valves, it is to be expected when any bits are in the system. The shock dampers as fitted to 19-EX, except for a fixed load setting (no governor or hand control) are shortly to be used on production. If you can find out any serious troubles with the dampers mounting, such as cracks in casting or frame, it would be very useful. Have the tyres been hitting the front dampers? Full lock on a bump, it appears that this might be possible. With regard to the rear dampers, I don't believe these are quite to the drawing, however, you may find out something that will be useful.

I hope you and Mrs. Roberts are enjoying Paris and keeping fit. 'Flu is busy here, and skating is just beginning.

Yours sincerely,
