Bentley "milanite" Flywheel.

High Speed Test.

A "milanite" flywheel EX.14077, with gear ring EX.14078 attached, was fitted to EX.13783 test rig, suitably modified by EX.16236/7/8 details.

A maximum flywheel speed of 6800 r.p.m. was attained, and maintained for 5 minutes.

Prior to running it was found that the flywheel had warped .004" - presumably during machining. However, when examined after running, this error was unaltered.

Both the flywheel and the gear ring were finally chalk-tested, and found to be quite sound.

It should be noted that the flywheel was attached to the rig shaft by 8 bolts, whereas the standard attachment is by 12 bolts.
