WRAITH BRAKES- STEEL SHOES ON REAR.

We have been trying the effect of a common hand and foot brake system on a Bentley with 14" brake drums of C.I. and steel shoes.

We think that the combination is quite satisfactory. Up to a temperature of 175°C the max. temperature difference between drum and shoes was only 10°C, and the maximum loosening of the hand brake on parking was two notches, which should be taken care of by sponge in the system.

We believe that De. is going to design a set of steel brake shoes for the rear brakes (only) of Wraith, in view of the Administration's decision not to use aluminium brake drums. The shoes should be interchangeable with the present ones, and should have tipping shoes.

We do not think that the cost of the assembly will be reduced by this change, judging by Phantom III experience, on which the extra cost of steel shoes over aluminium shoes is £3.7.0. per axle.
