Strong} re 20/25's. Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} ?/E16.4.31 You will remember that 18-G-4 was given a 10,000 mile test with a good many new features with a view to their introduction on production. In January last, when we were discussing the question of further 20/25 material, the position was that in view of Japan(Experimental Engine) III it was possible that we might only manufacture another 100 of the present 20/25 type of chassis. All concerned, therefore, agreed that it would be a waste of money to introduce many of the new features which would entail considerable expense with new jigs and tools etc. if we were only going to make about 100 more chassis. We went through the list at the time and this is referred to in the Minutes of the Conference held when I was at Derby on the 7th January. The present position of Japan(Experimental Engine) III has, however, altered the whole picture and we have already decided that we shall manufacture at least another 200 of the present type of 20/25 instead of 100, and it may be that we shall have to go even further than that. I am not sure that I have in London a complete list of the new features on 18-G-4. When I try to compare any of those that are in the files, I find it extremely difficult partly because the same thing is so often described in a different way. I attach a list of what I believe to be complete on the 28th November last. I should be glad if you would have this carefully analysed and made complete. It seems to me very important that we should immediately review the position and decided what, if any, of these items should be and can be introduced on "T" Series Many of them do not matter but some of them do. For instance I remember saying many months ago that I did not want to see any more 20/25 material ordered for chassis which | ||
