REMOTE CONTROL - SHOCK ABSORBERS. N.SCH.3497.

We paid a visit to the Automotive Products Co. - who manufacture the Lockheed braking system - with a view to finding out any difficulties connected with the application of their pieces to the remote control of the R.R. shock absorbers.

We found that the rubber cups, we left with you, were not their latest pattern. We are sending one of their latest 1 3/8 cyl.s complete, and also a drawing of their 1 1/4 rubbers. The Lockheed people point out that having a hole through the rubber will increase the liability of leaks; we would be glad if you could arrange it so that the rubber is used exactly as on their braking system.

They have not run these rubbers in anything but castiron, and point out that if aluminium alloy is used, it must contain no zinc.

They recommend the bore of the cylinder should be ground to size + .001, and that it should have a fine finish.

They state that leakage past these rubber cups is almost unknown. They use a pipe line of their own specification for the transmission, but as we are working at such a low pressure, it may not be necessary for us to go so low as this.

It is interesting to note that recently the Morris, Singer, Rover, and Sunbeam, and the L.G.O., have adopted their hydraulic brakes.

These people are anxious to co-operate with us in any way possible.
