Dear Mr.Leslie,

As promised, after the receipt of your telephone message, I went into the Works to see how these four back plates were progressing. I found three of them practically finished, but in the fourth, the drill had run out, and we were having to replace it.

As you will realise, it is a very awkward job drilling a small hole through the plate thickness, and we have had to put a spot weld there in order to guide the drill. As you remarked, you close the scarf aperture with a tube, but we in drilling, have to get over this gap somehow, and the only way we can do it is by a spot weld.

Anyway, I am hoping to despatch the four of these plates to you tomorrow on the 5.22 p.m. train direct to Derby, and I will confirm this later by wire, so that you can collect them at Derby Station at 7.35.

Yours truly,

THSanders
