Common Gearbox.

We are not proposing to provide an extension (as provided on Wraith III) at the rear end of this box.

As the Bentley is having a divided propeller shaft (for coachwork reasons) an extension is not required on this car.

We are assuming that, if successful on the Bentley, the divided propeller shaft will be applied to both the Phantom and the Wraith in due course.

A gearbox casing which takes full advantage of the deletion of the extension will not be suitable for the extension and, therefore, to obtain the greatest economy from the common box the propeller shaft policy must also be common.
