HYDRAULIC DAMPERS.

Attached is N. Sch.3264. You have already had a copy of our Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 5/KT.17.4.31. and the reply Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /Hdy. {William Hardy} 1/M22.4.31. In the latter you will note that the works are credited with certain preferences. The D.O. have asked us if we consider that N. Sch.3264 should be detailed and instructed. We are concerned only with the principles employed normally, from this point of view we have no criticisms. we think, however, that logically the same scrutiny that has been applied to Japan(Experimental Engine).III. designs generally should be applied to this damper (as it is undoubtedly intended for this car).

The main points appear to be -

(1) Is it as cheap to produce as the Delco, or the Delco modified to give R.R. results? The Delco can be made to do all we require.

(2) Is it so much cheaper to produce than the present R.R. dampers now under test that it will be worth the tool alterations involved?
