It is essential in the setting of these controls to make quite sure that the range of the governor control enables it to properley close the throttle, this position being one where the flat faced valve of the throttle piston is pressed against the extension to the low speed throat. Difficulty has been experienced in obtaining this, as there is no definite adjustment on these controls to ensure this correct movement other than the fixing of the control levers on to the shaft by means of the biting-in-bolt or the bending of the levers. Is the adsence of adjustment definitely avoided on this control mechanism? If so, can definite instructions be given in the building up of this control that the levers are so fixed that the full open position of the throttle coincides with the full movement of the governor, i.e. in the position where the governor lever is against its own stop to the rear of the car. At the same time, it should be ascertained that when the throttle is in the closed position the governor levers has still further movement to go. This ensures that the full effect of the governor is obtained, which is essential. It is surprising the number of complaints which we receive, and which we have on test, of banging in the silencer, which we find is due to the faulty setting of this control, and it is a fact that even though the carburetter or throttle may be dismantled, in fixing back it is found that these controls do not fulfil the conditions above required. X.995 In view of this, I recommend that some adjustment should be arranged so as to obtain correct setting of these controls which can be made clear in our instruction book. EP. {G.
