| C. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 9/G.18.4.39. WRAITH III and BENTLEY. EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. Please receive herewith E.CD.1318 showing a modification to the Exhaust Manifold and Downtake flange. The modifications are :- A flat joint instead of the spherical one used hitherto. Four bolts instead of three, reducing the load on the outer bolt when the engine is vibrating. Long bolts with distance pieces to increase elasticity and to help insulate the spring washer from the heat. If the spring washer still loses temper, a castle nut can be used. It is not intended to specify the corru-joint, which will be determined by the experiments now going on. DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
