SHOCK ABSORBER VALVE TO N.SCH.3497. When we use the external oil scheme, one of the troubles is that the oil leaks past the leather piston. The rate of leakage is too high. We are anxious to try a diaphragm in place of the leather piston, fitted on the lines of Sketch.705. The total movement of the diaphragm to alter the shock absorber load from maximum to minimum will have to be .075 at the centre. The diaphragm will ensure very positively no leak. You will remember that originally a sylphon tube was used for the same purpose, but as this cost 25/- a piece, the leather piston was substituted. We should like to know :- (1) If you think it possible to get a satisfactory diaphragm that will move .075 in the space available. (2) If you think the manufacture of the diaphragm a feasible proposition. (3) In the event of (1) & (2) being feasible can you make some parts to enable us to try it out. Attached N.Sch.3497.
