X.1627 - PRODUCTION TESTING OF CONDENSERS. X2572

We attach revised copy of the production test for the battery ignition condenser. In view of the failures we have experienced in the condensers made by the Dubilier Condenser Company, we have made careful measurements of the voltage actually used for our condenser tests, and we find that the maximum voltage we reach on the condenser terminals is very little greater than 400, further, that the voltage at which the condensers are switched on circuit before the voltage is raised comes out at about 225. We have therefore altered the production test accordingly in this respect.

It has also been necessary to alter the production test in respect of the altered frequency of supply now that we are working upon the other alternating system in which the frequency is about 50 periods. This affects the limits of milli-amperes of capacity current taken by the condenser on the capacity test, which are now 12.5 to 15.0 m.a. instead of 10.5 to 13.0 as formerly, these corresponding of course to the same capacity limits in microfarads, viz. .19 to .23.

Would you kindly have the old specifications replaced by these new ones where necessary. Copies are also attached to copies of this note addressed to Mr. Brock and Mr. Watkins.
