| x v Ltr. Experimental Dept. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Lid. {A. J. Lidsey} 9/KT. December 7th 1933. Messrs Desmo Ltd., "Desmo House", Stafford Street, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr.W.Pease. Dear Sirs, We beg to acknowledge with thanks your letter ref. WP/HMD. enclosing Drawing No. SK/104/33 - covers for brake adjusters. We are very pleased with the design generally, but are rather afraid that the metal sleeve will fall out of the rubbers when the adjustment is in its "brake new" position (i.e. in the position shewn on your drawing). We realise that it is not possible for the sleeve to enter further into rubbers in this position, because of the necessity to cater for the extreme opposite condition when the brakes are at the end of their adjustment. A possible solution is to form a lip on one or both ends of the sleeve and modify the rubbers to grip over this lip, and so prevent the sleeve from falling out by the action of road vibrations. We should be glad if you would modify the design on these lines and let us have four sets (i.e. for four cars) to test out experimentally at the earliest possible date. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
