(Experimental Dept.) 1231 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}3/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 11th September, 1937. Messrs. C.C. Wakefield & Co.,Ltd., Wakefield House, 30/32, Cheapside, E.C.2. (For the attention of Mr. Evans.) Dear Sirs, We are sending to you a sample of oil which has been run in a gearbox on one of our French endurance tests. We are very worried by the amount of sludge we have found in the gearbox. For the first 100 miles of the test we deliberately ran on the Hi-press oil, since then we have run on Castrol XL. We should be glad to have your opinion on the oil which we have sent you, and reasons for the excessive amount of sludge. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
