1033 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe}9/AH. 14th July, 1937. Messrs. The Zenith Carburettor Co.Ltd., Honeypot Lane, Stanmore, MIDDLESEX. For the attention of Mr.A.E.Palmer. Dear Sirs, Many thanks for your letter and drawings. Phantom III E.E.C.42. We are still undecided on the size of float needle seating with high pressure pumps. At the moment we are in favour of the .180 seating. The following figures were obtained yesterday from a car completed. Standard .180 seating. Normal level at .625". Head of fuel registered above carb. 64". Level at 112 pts/hr. .825". Loss in level of .200". Head of fuel registered above carb. 34" at 112 pts/hr. On inspection of several needles it was found that all had machine marks on both seat and corners. It is essential that these places on the needle have a mirror polished finish to avoid flooding. Will you please let us know what size of seating the Americans use on this E.E.C. 42 carburettor. We would again welcome your comments and recommendations on this matter. | ||
