x832 Experimental Dept. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Les.1/KT. July 24th 1933. The Packless Gland Co. Ltd., Windmill Road, Sunbury, Middlesex. For the attention of Mr. Martin-Hurst. Dear Sir, When you were at our works we spoke to you about a shock damper gland and considered using your special bellows gland. At the time we were not very interested, as we thought the cost would be considerably higher than our present gland which has given satisfaction. We realize that we cannot expect a gland to be oil tight with worn bearings unless there is some flexibility between the gland and the bearing. We enclose a drawing Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1077, Scale 2 to 1, which is what we should imagine would be a really satisfactory gland. At the same time it would appear to be fairly cheap to produce. Will you please let us have a quotation for supplying and attaching the bellows to the end pieces, when dealing with batches of 500? Other parts than the bellows would be supplied by us. Yours truly, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
