-2- Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Std.19/KW.15.4.35. It would seem therefore that your difficulty in producing these new thermostats to our requirements is due to the decreased size of bellows (the travel is also reduced .050). We should like your confirmation of this fact. We would agree to a +- 2oC. limit on the opening temperature of 75oC. and also to a limit of +0 -3 oC. on the range of 7oC. corresponding to .250 lift of bellows. We should like to know whether you consider such a thermostat a production proposition. In the event of your deciding that the above is not practicable, we agree that the ideal arrangement is to control the bellows with a spring (their own rate being negligible compared with that of the spring) and utilise some form of adjustment for this spring. We attach herewith a print showing the arrangement of our latest cooling water thermostat and room available for modifications, and shall be very pleased to receive your suggestions as to a suitable arrangement of valve and spring. (Note; the valve of the thermostat is fully balanced for water pressure and a bypass pipe to the water pump is used. Trusting to receive your views on these points at an early date. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
