No. 3409 REF Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RB{R. Bowen}1/8.12.23. OBJECT OF TEST. Test on Ferodo lined wrapping shoes. TESTER. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Bolton. CONDITIONS. Drum water cooled throughout. One spring was fitted to each shoe at the toggle end, this spring being anchored to a non-wrapping shoe from which the lining and toggle had been removed. Some difficulty was experienced in supporting the split shoes in the 'off' position as the couple produced by the spring and the toggle forced the extreme toggle end on to the drum. It was also found impossible to keep the clearance in the 'off' position the same for each segment of the shoes. SUMMARY OF TEST. Sketch of brake assembly during tests :- In the following table { 550 brake drum revs. = 1750 eng. revs. 473 " " " = 1500 " " 315 " " " = 1000 " " W = wt. in lbs. applied to brake lever on axle tube to reduce brake drum speed as shown. Note - all figures given are the average of five consecutive readings taken under as nearly as possible the same conditions of temperature. contd:- | ||
