Dear Sirs, Following the recent discussion you had with our Mr.J.Russell Sharp, we wish to advise that certain laboratory tests are necessary before we can definitely state that Mobiloil "EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}" could be satisfactorily added to Whitmores Gear Compound in a back axle. We are proceeding with such tests and will advise the result at the earliest possible date. We also wish to confirm that our regular grade of Mobiloil which approximates Air Ministry D.T.D.109 specification is Mobiloil Aero "W". This oil conforms with DTD.109 as regards viscosity, pour test and general characteristics but the oxidation test is slightly different, although in actual practice the oil gives very clean results as regards internal condition of crankcase and general cleanliness of piston rings, grooves, &c., while under hard running conditions we believe we are correct in stating that this oil is somewhat better than D.T.D.109 from a wear standpoint. In view of the wide distribution of Mobiloil Aero "W" overseas and the fact that many foreign governments employ proprietary brands of oils for their aircraft requirements, we may suggest that Mobiloil Aero "W" be placed on your approved list.
