X1280 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.17/KW. Your Ref: JLC/AMG.7.4.36. 27th April, 1936. Messrs. John Marston Ltd., Paul St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Works, Wolverhampton. For the attention of Mr. Southall. Dear Sirs, We note your letter of the 7th inst., for which we thank you. From your attached curves we note that the experimental Mark VI core which you constructed with plain airways, has not proved successful and this rather bears out some figures which we have recently received from the Harrison Co. of New York. We attach a copy of three curves taken by the Harrison Co. with different depths of louvres and also a diagram explaining the connection between louvres and what they term "air gaps". From these curves it will be seen that the core with the deepest louvres gives the maximum cooling. In view of this it may be possible to improve your Mark VI matrix to the standard of the Harrison core. With regard to their latest type of core, they say that the situation is not quite clear at the moment and that they are still working on it, but will keep us advised of results. You may be interested to hear that over the speed range which we have used, the test figures obtained in this country agree reasonably well with the Harrison figures. | ||
