BENTLEY INCREASED CAPACITY HELICAL OIL PUMP - Lec 4288.

GEARS FB. 2133/4.

We give below W. Bell's report on tests carried out on the Increased Capacity Oil Pumps fitted with spiral Gears which are to be used in connection with Lead Bronze Big End Bearings. With regard to quietness, these pumps are an improvement compared with the straight gear type pump.

"We have tested four of the above pumps and find that a 36% delivery increase over the standard pump E.53658 is obtained at 2000 r.p.m. (equivalent to 4000 engine r.p.m.)

The minimum pumping speed against a delivery pressure of 25 lbs. sq" is higher than standard, and ranges from 150 to 200 R.P.M. These pumps are also quieter than standard pumps although a certain amount of noise is audible with the aid of a "listening stick".

An initial relief valve pressure setting of 17 lbs.sq" was used for these tests this figure being copied from the pump of an engine in Service.

W. Bell."
