Dear Mr. Armstrong,

I have been talking to our Metal expert and he thinks R.R.53.C is preferable to P.Z. From the specification he considers P.Z. as being brittle and more difficult to cast. Of course, you will be largely influenced by prices, but it appears that R.R.53.C should be the same price.

The reason for using R.R.53.C. instead of R.R.50 is because the former is a better bearing metal and I am sure everybody will want to throw away bushes. P.Z. would be a better bearing metal than R.R.50.

With regard to your desire to use our balanced valve similar to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}366 for your normal production dampers. I think we should be pleased to except a small royalty if the patent is successfully completed.

Are you proposing to use this valve on hand control type dampers only, or on all your shock dampers?

If you can let me have a little more information about quantities, I will try to get a general consent so that we can discuss the matter fully in two weeks time.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS - ROYCE. LTD.
