The lubrication of the rear brake actuating shafts has been satisfactory. We have not had any further trouble with the bifur connections working loose.

REAR BRAKES to LOP.G.33596.

Foot and Hand Brakes Lined with Ferodo Bonded Asbestos.

The rear brakes developed slight groans which have remained consistent throughout the test. The groans are obtained by a very light pedal pressure such as is used when finally pulling up the car. The brakes have worn a considerable amount. It has been necessary to open out the toggles of the brakes two complete turns. Further adjustments have since been made with the chauffeurs adjustment. We should say that the brake linings are good for a further 5,000 miles. Examination of the brake drums show them to be in fairly good condition with no heavy score marks.

FRONT AXLE & HUBS to LOP.G.54312 - G.L.480

G.L.480 .375 Thick Shoes - Anti Squeak Pivoted Type.
Brake Shoes - Ferodo Bonded Asbestos.

The front axle has not shown any defects. The lubrication of the front axle, which failed during the first part of the test due to the soldered junction of the feed pipe coming adrift, has not given any further trouble, after re-soldering it. The fault is apparently that not sufficient care is taken in the soldering up of the joints. There has been ample lubrication to the brake operating shafts. We should like to draw attention to the quantity of oil that escapes from the steering pivots. This oil draining down the outside of the brake drum shields. There has been practically no wear taken place in the steering pivots. We are of the opinion that the ratio of the front braking could be increased as during the total mileage, it has only been necessary to adjust the brakes once, whereas the rear brakes have had all the adjustment taken up and had to be reset. The condition of the front brakes when examined was very good. They have been free from squeaks throughout the test. The front brake drum surfaces are free from any scoring and are in a good condition.
