SAME TERMS AS DUNLOPS

Attention:- Mr. F.J. Hardy.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of 20th September to which was attached a curve showing the results of your Skid Pan tests on our experimental 6.50/16 Narrow Groove Tyre with bisected centre traction blocks. We note that bisection of the centre traction blocks has reduced slightly the slip angle, but that the tyre is still inferior in this respect to the corresponding India and Dunlop articles.

Since the visit which the undersigned paid to your Works last month we have prepared 20 pairs of tyres which cover a range of variations in tread pattern, tread surface contour and carcass construction. We would like to take advantage of your kind offer that we should use your Skid Pan to test such a range of variations. Would it be convenient for us to do so, commencing Wednesday, 5th October? I would bring with me two observers to assist in making the tests and in changing tyres. We would send the tyres and spare wheels to your Works at the end of next week and we ourselves would travel to Derby for the test in our own Vauxhall 25, which we would propose to use for the tests. We would be prepared to stay in Derby until Saturday, 8th October in order to complete the full series of tests. We would be grateful if you would at the outset of our tests instruct us in your present method of using the Skid Pan, but thereafter we should not require any assistance. We would propose bringing with us three pairs of smooth tyres for front wheels; we would like to learn whether you consider these sufficient for the tests which we propose.

Trusting these arrangements will be acceptable to you and thanking you for the very considerable assistance you have already given us in this matter.

We remain,
Yours faithfully,
THE AVON INDIA RUBBER COMPANY LIMITED.
