Mr. W.A. Robotham,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Mr. Robotham,

You may recollect that a few months ago when we had some time to think of passenger tyre development, we ordered an experimental 6.50/16 mould having for its tread pattern a modified form of the original five-bar design which you tested in 1939. We have received delivery of this mould and are today despatching to you four tyres from it, with the following serial numbers.

LT.3806. LT.3807.
LT.3847. LT.3854.

We should be grateful if you would fit those tyres to your own car and in due course let us have an opinion regarding their performance, particularly in regard to squealing on corners.

Present indications are that this will be the last piece of passenger tyre development we shall be able to undertake for many months to come - for the present our main worry is to find substitutes for crude rubber that will lead to the least loss of performance.

There will be no charge for these tyres.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
THE AVON INDIA RUBBER COMPANY LIMITED.
