X4077 c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/H7.4.23. re 20-HP. Faulty Speedometer Drive. --------------------------------- With reference to my conversation with you on the above matter, I send you herewith a complete drive and broken bronze pinion. This drive was satisfactory while the car went through its tests, but during its final test after being at the coachbuilders the speedometer drive failed and it was discovered that the pinion was missing. In order to correct this job it has been necessary completely to dismantle the gear box to take out the broken pinion. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reports that he has had similar experience on his car. We have also had one or two similar failures take place on test. The drive I send you herewith is actually as taken off the gear box and shows the fixing up and complete pin in position. This failure is one which I am rather concerned about, and which I feel requires immediate attention, and I shall be glad if you will let me know what instructions you propose to issue as to what is to be done to future drives being made, also those on test, and whether consideration should be given to chassis delivered or in service. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} P.S. Please let us know to what account the expenses in connection with this changeover should be charged. | ||
