FILE. X111 3 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Copy to G.W.H ✓ Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GR.{George Ratcliffe}11/KW.19.9.36. Stromberg Carburetters D.C.42. Complaints at Cricklewood, London. No complaints were received at the depot between the 14th and 18th. Three or four cars had been altered previously by fitting an .064" main metering jet. Unfortunately no evidence is yet available, as the jets (suspected faulty) had been reamed out larger, irrespective of flow size, and then rejected. It was arranged that Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} should deal with any future complaint by witnessing a flow test at Zenith Carb.Co. on any faulty jet found. These jets are tested on a Brown and Barlow flowmeter, Mark X, and should give the following flow within the limit of + 2 c.c's :- .062 - 300 c.c. .063 - 310 c.c. .064 - 322 c.c. The following consumption tests were carried out on 21-G-IV with no appreciable difference between the jets .063 and .064. Part throttle running only, never full throttle; not exceeding 50 M.P.H. level and at an average speed of 33 M.P.H. - .063 jet 18.5 M.P.G. .064 jet 17.0 M.P.G. Full throttle running, driving as fast as possible for 50 miles, and using the gears at an average speed of 45 M.P.H. - .063 jet 13.2 M.P.G. .064 jet 13.1 M.P.G. These tests were repeated and checked O.K. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.H.Ratcliffe. | ||
