Mr. Hives,

Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Mr. Hives,

No doubt you will recollect my visit to your company's works a few months ago, when you were good enough to arrange for me to look round some of the Shops. You might also remember me in connection with the 400 HP 12-cylinder air cooled super-charged engine you saw at the R.A.E. Farnborough.

Everybody seems to have heard the rumour that your company is arranging to produce a high performance sporting type super-charged car to compete with those at present in existence such as Alpha Romeo, Bougatti, etc. A friend of mine is extremely anxious to know whether it will be possible to obtain one of these cars during the next twelve months, as he would like to buy one and enter it for the principal racing events. He is prepared to spend quite a lot of money on the car, and to stand all racing expenses involved.

I promised to do my best to find out whether your company will be in a position to supply such a car, and it occurred to me that you could help me in the matter. You may take it that whatever information you are good enough to let me have will be treated as being very confidential.

Yours faithfully,

H.J. Hatch
