As regards the thermostat to BGA.2073A with a permanently open bypass, this appears to be a good deal more satisfactory and gives a running temperature of 78 - 80°C. in the cylinder head with very little variation.

We have however had one trouble with this thermostat, on both the ones which you sent us, the ball valve retaining cap blow off (pressumably under the effect of water pressure) and had to be soldered to the valve head in position.

We shall therefore concentrate on this scheme and would like you to forward as soon as possible two further thermostats to BGA.2073A, with valve seatings modified to 1 3/8" dia. and set to open at 80°C ± 1°C, valve to be full open at or below 90°C, ball valve retaining caps sweated in position. Further you will remember you suggested that plating of these thermostats (presumably chromium?) would add to the appearance and durability of them without materially increasing the cost, We should like these two thermostats to be plated in the manner which you suggest and will send you an official order as soon as we receive them.

Meanwhile, will you please let us have a quotation for thermostats exactly as per the two ordered above, in quantities of 200 at a time.

We should like you to treat the delivery of the above two thermostats as extremely urgent.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
