Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Instructions to Shop Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}17/ML.21.4.41. 1373 TEST BED WORK - METEOR. We have the following development work to do before we start endurance running on No: 2. engine. 1. Close clearance pistons and "L" Section rings. 2. Induction pipe centre with improved water heating and reduced cross section of passages. 3. Merlin camshaft, comparison with Kestrel. 4. Investigation of top over oiling. 5. Green light scheme incorporated in the governor. These should follow the development of the governor, which is, of course, No: 1. job and will be run in conjunction with the tests on the air cleaner withthe pipes supplied by Leyland's. When this development work is completed, we propose to run 20 hours endurance at 20 lbs/sq. ins. water pressure, this pressure to be obtained by raising the coolant temperature until its vapour operates against a blow off valve. p.p.
