Royal Automobile Club, London, S.W. 1. X3805 T. BM. W. A. {Mr Adams} Robotham Esq., "The Knoll", Littleover, Nr. Derby. June 23rd 1928 Dear Sir:- On receipt of your letter of yesterday's date, I turned to Bartholomew's 1/2" maps, sheets Nos. 19 and 25, and found that there are at least four straight roads marked thereon as being of third class surface, and the position of these is indicated on the attached map in red. (1) Between Chatteris and Warboys is a three mile stretch by Warboys High Fen. This is practically level. (2) Willingham and Haddenham. There is a 2 1/2 mile stretch between Belsars Hill and Aldreth. This descends from a very slight eminence on the hill to the crossing of the River Ouse, and then rises again to the village in the last 3/4 mile; so that for all practical purposes this is a level road, as the heights are so slight. (3) From the Cambridge to St. {Capt. P. R. Strong} Neots road, 3 1/2 miles West of the former place there is a road due south descending to the Barton-Comberton road, the length of which is 2 miles. (4) From Duxford South-westward, there is a stretch of 2 miles, which finishes with a slight bend before joining another road at right-angles. Of these I think that the first would be the most suitable, but I take it that you would inspect these before making any such tests as you propose. Yours faithfully, [Signature] SECRETARY. | ||
