PHANTOM 1 GEARBOX WITH CONTINUOUS HELICAL 3RD. SPEED. We have tested Phantom 1 with the gearbox which is fitted with the double helical 3rd speed with the internal gear for engaging similar to the present top gear. The 3rd speed as a gear is very quiet. In the back of the car it is difficult to distinguish any gear noise, but in the driver's seat there is a definite high pitched howl. The engagement of the 3rd gear still requires a certain amount of skill. We were proposing to cut back alternate teeth on the internal gear so that the engagement can be made more easily. There is a certain amount of noise from the 3 speed gears when the engine is idling. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
