EXHAUST FITTING to LOP E.55794 N.S.3162. TO SUIT REVISED POSITION OF CROSSMEMBER E.S.3162.

The exhaust system has been very free from any exhaust blows. The sliding joint has given trouble through being too good a fit. This caused it to bind, with the result, the front stay bracket collapsed. It was also found that the front exhaust pipe was too long and butted up to the rear pipe in the sliding joint. This prevents the sliding joint functioning correctly. We point this out because the expansion effect is for the pipe to slide in and out of the joint. The new silencer lapping is a very poor job and immediate attention should be given to improvement. This is made of aluminium sheeting which tears away from the binding strips, opening out the jointing. It also creeps away from the silencer endsway and is now overhanging the ends by one inch. We should recommend that the joint be at the inner side instead of at the bottom, so that dirt would fall away from the joint instead of forcing the joint apart as it does at present. The silencer brackets and stays are satisfactory. The swanneck and snout are O.K.

CAMSHAFT AND ROCKERS to LOP E.54371 CAMSHAFT. E.54113. (110° Angle)

The camshaft and rockers have given no trouble. The push rods are O.K.

MAGNETO AND DYNAMO DRIVE LRO.2607. 1245/c.

E.55290 Dynamo Drive Spindle
E.55165 Driving Gear
E.55187 Inter. Spindle
E.55102 Comm. Shaft
E.55375 Coupling?

Improved Dynamo Drive Lubricated from the Low Pressure Oil Supply.

We have already drawn attention to the loss of fine timing of the magneto due to the fabric coupling replacing the serrated drive which is incorporated in the Improved Dynamo drive. The improved drive is free from rattles at this mileage. The fabric coupling shows no deterioration and the drive generally appears to be satisfactory.

WATER PUMP to LOP. E.54728.

Spring loaded Gland Packing.

There has been no water leak from the gland of the water pump at this mileage. There is no oil leak from the drive and the fabric coupling remains in good condition.

OIL PUMP to LOP E.33668.

A satisfactory oil pressure has been maintained throughout the mileage. The pressure drops slightly after braking but it has immediately built up. The pump is generally quiet.
