DATA SERIES 3: HISPANO FRONT AXLE WEIGHTS 2280 LBS. (c) Reversible and non-reversible steerings. There are three main types of steering gear - Reversible - Semi-reversible - Non-reversible. It should be observed that though the gear employed may be semi-reversible, yet other factors in the system may make the steering as a whole totally irreversible in some ways. Thus friction in the pivots or a plain thrust washer at the base of the column will prevent a R-R steering from self-centering, because the force tending to make the steering return, is entirely absorbed by friction before it reaches the semi-reversible screw and nut. Again, there is a common impression that a worm and wheel steering is irreversible. As is demonstrated later, the irreversibility or contd. | ||
